SSF SA Proudly brought to you by EducapeThe SSF SA is an education program, aimed at improving language and social skills through the Performing Arts. It is Educape’s flagship initiative, launched in 2010 by Kseniya Filinova-Bruton, to strengthen the link between the Arts and education. Since inception, the SSF SA has gone from 20 to 2000 participating youth and Learners across the Western Cape, Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Eastern Cape.
Staging a Shakespeare play in a professional theatre is a challenge to be relished. The SSF SA is ideal for young people seeking to explore their potential in a fun-filled, developmental way; simultaneously making their theatre debut on a professional stage in a non-competitive environment. The SSF SA is fully-interactive, and provides guidance and resources through scripts, training, framework and feedback, allowing Learners and Educators to successfully direct and perform Shakespearean plays from the first line to the final bow.
What we do
We unite children from diverse backgrounds in Southern Africa and EMPOWER THEM TO transform their lives, using the unique power of THEATRE AND THE WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE AS THE VEHICLE.
At the heart of what we do is Africa’s biggest Shakespeare youth drama project which takes place each year in 5 provinces of South Africa. Alongside our annual Festival, we offer training programs for teachers, young learner directors, casts of the schools in preparation for their performances at the festival.
We believe SSF SA is for everyone and each year work with primary, secondary, special needs schools. We are committed to reaching children with special educational needs, from diverse racial backgrounds, and those living in areas of deprivation.
Whether we’re engaging young people in the Festival, or in a school hall, or classroom, our creative approach to education unlocks their potential. With us, young people change their attitude to learning
Our objectives are to:
• Promote life skills, social cohesion and ambition
• Promote educational attainment, especially in literacy, literature and the performing arts
• Provide a unique cultural and creative experience to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds
Our values are a statement of intent. They embody the visceral, energetic and ambitious way in which we work to fulfill our mission
